Two people, including a child, were killed during a soccer game in Wichita, Kansas, when a person drove a vehicle through the field at Stryker soccer complex, police have confirmed. Multiple other people were injured.

The driver of the vehicle is in custody, Aaron Moses of the Wichita police department said Saturday in a news conference. There were two juveniles in the vehicle, he said.

Police confirmed that one child was killed at the scene and one adult was killed, but did not release any names or ages until family could be notified. “This is a tragedy,” Moses said. Those injured were taken to hospitals but the extent of their injuries is unknown.

Moses said he did not know how fast the vehicle was traveling or how it got onto the field.

Officials are still investigating and the city has said all events at the soccer complex are canceled until further notice. Wichita police have set up a portal for anyone to submit video evidence of the incident.

A witness told local news station KWCH that a black pickup truck was seen “plowing through the youth soccer fields”. The truck hit multiple people before stopping 100-200 yards down the fields, the witness said. They reported seeing dozens of emergency responders giving aid and CPR to the victims.

Lily Wu, the mayor of Wichita, posted a message on social media: “I’m heartbroken by reports of a tragic incident at Stryker Sports Complex. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected, especially the children and families involved.”
